Where to Stay in Miami - 3 nights

Hi all,

We are in the midst of planning a trip to the USA from Australia at the beginning of May, and am looking at a week in Orlando (we can probably get a timeshare condo there for a reasonable price) and then driving down to Miami for about 3 nights.

We are a married couple in our mid 40s, and would like somewhere that is close to shops/restaurants/beach with a mid-range price tag.

Any suggestions?

Geography for 1st time visitors:

Miami Beach is a city on a barrier island of the same name off the coast of Miami %26amp; connected to it by several causeways. ';South Beach'; is the southernmost 2 miles or so of the city. It contains the best known beaches, shopping streets, restaurants and the historic ';art deco'; district.

Sobe hotels:

To be in the center of or within walking distance of the center of SoBe you want to stay somewhere below 23d street (address number under 2300) and on or within a block of Washington or Collins Aves., or Ocean drive. You won%26#39;t need a car.
