Orlando airport - anything to do nearby??

We (myself, dh %26amp; 5 yr old dd) will have about 8 hours before our flight. We are on a Disney Cruise and have transportation to the airport included in our package. So I am looking for some thoughts on:

a) do we rent a car for the day and go ...(insert suggestion)

b) take a cab and go....

or

c) there really isnt much to do nearby so hunker down with a book %26amp; the portable dvd...

Things to do can include - shopping, touring a cool area, site seeing anything really touristy - not sure that we want to do another theme park.

Really any ideas are appreciated!!

Thanks!

About 5 miles due south along Boggy Creek Road is the Boggy Creek Airboats which might make a nice diversion for a couple of hours. Assuming it%26#39;s Orlando International rather than Orlando Sanford airport.

Sorry, for 5 miles, read 30 miles! Sense of distance is somewhat distorted in Florida!

if you are considering hiring a car for the day why dont you drive to Jetty park and spend the day on the beach.

You can skip the transport to the airport, then the shuttle to the Disney cruise.

Just drive the few hundred yds from the jetty park and drop the car off at the hire station there .

Lovely child friendly beach and play area , with facilities and restaurant /snack bar.

Your cruise ship and jetty park are almost walking distance apart (half mile)

Shopping - and getting there cheaply:

Hop on bus #42 (every 30 minutes Mon-Sat) or bus 111 (hourly) and go to the Florida Mall. Trip time about 20 minutes, cost $2 each, each way.

Or you can go on Priceline, get a room at one of the airport hotels and take a swim and a rest-there%26#39;s about 18 hotels within a mile of the airport. The Hyatt inside the airport has day rates too

Thanks everyone....except Vegas
