Rental Car prices.

Can anyone tell me why these are going up so much. I rented a compact back in August with Alamo back in August for Febuary 09, for 5 days at $152. It is now showing the same thing for $326.19. I thought we were in a Reccession? I got my Hotel room dirt cheap. My airfare dirt cheap. But these Car rental prices are outrageous!

I just ran into the same thing for our January trip. Rental cars were insane. I ended up using priceline and got a compact at $15/day. Every other site was over $300!

We%26#39;ve just noticed the same thing and not only in one location. I%26#39;ve been told they are keeping their cars longer now and the auto makers aren%26#39;t subsidizing cars any longer so the rental%26#39;s will need to stand on their own. Again, I find it unique that cheap flights, cheap rooms, cheap food, and discounted admissions are available but cars are out of sight. We%26#39;ve taken to looking once per day at all major sights as well as using coupons and partner promos, etc. to keep it affordable. Hope it will change soon as we have a trip planned in 4 weeks to Orlando/Kissimmee and the best price we have is $165 with tax included for a compact. In October we paid $150 with tax included for a mid size. Looking at rates today our $165 looks like a good rate??? :(

credit markets for new buys by anyone incl rental agencies has dried up. Therefore less cars, less capacity, higher prices. Lots of trips for the next few months were planned before the collapse. Cars were sold off and not replaced. Economics 101.

$165 Is a great rate right now. But I would sign up for Alamo%26#39;s last minute deals. They come out every Thursday, so you may be able to get it a little cheaper then.

Credit is, and has not been a problem for anyone with a good credit rating in the US. What has happened is they no longer extend any credit to bad, or marginal risk individuals, or Companies- Corporations. And this will not change anytime soon. And it should not change anytime soon This is what caused this Global Crisis to begin with.

It was the companies I was talking about. Even the big ones are struggling for credit.

And the companies that cannot borrow, are high risk, whether big or small. If you are talking about the Big ';3';, the US automakers, they are garbage companies, that are nothing but a big retirement home. They support more than 4 times the retirees right now, than they do workers. And they wonder why they can%26#39;t compete. These Companys are history, and the sooner the American people let go of there we can%26#39;t let these American legends fail mentalities, the better off we will be. It is time for the free market to take over again. And you will notice that when it was all said and done Ford Motor Co. would accept any money from our Government. They did not want to fall under a Socialist Rule.

I am talking about the car rental companies. smaller yet reliant on the big 3. when the big 3 go down, they will take all and sundry with them.

If the banks won%26#39;t lend to each other, they won%26#39;t lend to Dollar etc. I know of many small to med companies that are/were fine, but the banks have witdrawn their working capital loans and seized deposits. So they can%26#39;t pay the employees wages, or their bills. so they go under.

amanx. there are rental car companies right now, Alamo included, that have Foreign cars in there line up. They just do not make up the majority of there line up. This may now change, and we may already be seeing the fallout of this. Higher prices, because of high demand, less vehicles, because of no money in circulation to borrow. Let me tell you something. if you don%26#39;t take this seriously, the US, and the global economy is in big trouble, and it is mostly attributed to us. But if you think Obama is going to come in and straighten this mess out in the next year, your dreaming. We have a long, rocky two year period at least. Unless he doe%26#39;s what I think he is going to do. Than it will be 6 years.
