Need a decent hotel/motel within 45 minutes or so of the FLL airport. Most of the posts I found when I searched the site seemed to be more long-term and resort, beach oriented. Am flying out in the morning and driving down from South Carolina. Don%26#39;t want anything fancy as we%26#39;ll just be crashing there, but will be getting in fairly late (around midnight) and don%26#39;t want my gf to freak out! Thanks for any suggestions. Hotels.com and expedia all have lot%26#39;s of them listed, just was hoping for a bit of a heads up from experienced travelers. Thanks.--Steve
Interstate Motel/hotel within 45min airport?I stayed at the Best Western Oakland Park which is on the US1 and we found convenient for the airport. It normal hovers around the $100 mark sometimes more sometimes less depending on dates and demand. It%26#39;s clean (typical Best Western) and has a good breakfast included in the price. There are a couple of bars close by that are open late, if you want a nightcap.
Interstate Motel/hotel within 45min airport?Be really careful as most of the motels right near I-95 exits are really awful and /or in dicey areas- that would include El Palacio and Red Roof Inn at Commercial and I-95, Days Inn at I-95 and Oakland Park Blvd and Days Inn at I-95 and Broward Blvd. There area few that are a bit nicer a little to the east of the interchanges- one fairly nice one that comes to mind is the Hampton Inn east of I-95 on Cypress Creek Rd ( may be called 62nd St)- the La Quinta on the same road is a bit marginal .
There are many motels just off I-95 along SW 24 th St ( aka SR 84) , but some of those are awful as well- including Red Carpet Inn and Rodeway Inn and the Ramada which is little better but marginal. Better choices on that road would be the Candlewood Suites ( a fairly new construction) and the Best Western, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express properties along that road- but they get lots of pre and post cruise customers and are not inexpensive.
Further south at the Stirling Road interchange south of the Airport , the Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn are good and the Comfort Inn maybe a bit less quality, but once again these places are not always bargains with lots of cruise customers coming into the airport area.
Are you definitely travelling down I-95 to get here , not the Florida Turnpike ( a toll road that many find less congested)?
The motel Sue has mentioned in the previous post would be ok too, but it is somewhat east of I-95 and and south on US 1.
Thanks--got a deal on Holiday Inn Sunrise--have car and not too early flight so no problems with a little extra driving.
As for the turnpike, do folks recommend getting on it at first opportunity, or is there a common area most people tend to get on it to avoid bad traffic. Also, what is the rough cost to get to Ft. L? Thanks.
I%26#39;m confused as to what you%26#39;re doing. You%26#39;re driving down from South Carolina but flying out in the morning...is that right?
A really nice hotel just off the turnpike (and a little west) is the Renaissance Plantation. It%26#39;s at I-595 and Pine Island Road. I-595 is very accessible from the Turnpike and Pine Island Road is not a long distance away. It%26#39;s a beautiful hotel.
If you want to be closer to the airport, I would take the turnpike to I-595 and head east to I-95 south to Griffin and take a look at the Hilton and Sheraton airport properties. Both are really nice and you%26#39;ll be right there for your flight in the morning.
The Holiday Inn Sunrise is a long way from both the turnpike and the airport and would definitely not be my first choice.
