Key Largo

We stayed at the Hilton Key Largo last year and visited the Fish House Encore restaurant which we loved.

We caught a taxi from the hotel to the restaurant, just two miles away, which cost $18 each way. We thought this was quite expensive.

Could anyone recommend a good place to stay which is near the Fish House Encore please?

We would also like to know if this is typical of taxi fares in the Keys.

How many were sharing the taxi? I know there is a fee for additional passengers and that you don%26#39;t pay one price for the entire taxi. The Encore is roughly at MM 102. The Hilton is at MM 98. 4 miles. A DUI defense is minimum $10,000 and they are VERY strict about enforcing the DUI laws here.

The Key Largo Resort at Manatee Bay is probably the closest place to Encore (we are headed to Encore now!). We have had friends who stayed there and loved it. It has been completely gutted after Hurricane Wilma in 2005 and is now brand new. Also, the construction of the new govt. center next door is complete, so no noise/dust from that.

There were just two of us in the taxi, it is our fault really for not asking the price.

We will definitely look at the Resort at Manatee Bay.
