Re: digital camera stores

hi,

I am about to visit the Orlando area. Are digital SLR cameras notably cheaper in Orlando than in the UK, and could you recommend any good stores?

Thanks,

Mark

Re: digital camera stores

The first and foremost piece of advice I can offer is that there are lots of little camera stores with what one might call questionable ethics. Stay well away.

There is a chain - www.ritzcamera.com - with several branches.

There are Best Buy and Circuit City (similar to UK Comet/Curry%26#39;s but bigger).

And the local real specialist - Colonial Photo and Hobby - http://www.cphfun.com

As for cheaper...probably not, or not by much. Think about things like warranty, multivoltage charger, import taxes and so on when you consider.

I%26#39;m not 100% sure, but I remember reading that Circuit City had gone into receivership.

The lower exchange rate means that it is more difficult nowadays to find a genuine bargain. Plus, you also have warranty issues to take into account.

Personally, I would do some checking on web sites both here and there to see what the difference is and make a decision based on that. You can often get pretty good deals on Amazon UK and also pixmania.

Circuit City has gone into liquidation as of 16th January

Yes, the Circuit City stores are all closing forever.

You can get a few models at either Wal-Mart or Target, but I%26#39;d probably go to Best Buy myself for the biggest selection.

Another reputable camera store is Ritz/Wolfe, but steer clear of those camera stores in the strip malls in the tourist areas. They are rip-offs.

First of all, price what you want here at Amazon/Tesco etc and see what it costs. Multiply that by the exchange rate, and add 7% for tax. This is the price you need to beat.

Then when you are there, look at BestBuy/Target, even Walamrt and see what they have and if it is any cheaper. I found electronics were still a better buy there when the exchange rate was near $1.70/1, but not so much now.

If when you have found on the US websites that there isn%26#39;t much difference, check the Dixon%26#39;s Duty free in the airport on your way over. That can be the best deal when exchange rates are bad.
