Sanibel Island in June?

We have never been here and are thinking of a trip for our anniversary June 20 for one week. We are beach bums. We want to be able to kick back on the beach, go in the ocean, read a book, have a drink, go out to a good dinner. Does Sanibel fit the bill for what we are seeking? How is the weather that time of year?

Thanks!

Sanibel would be perfect for you. What you described is exactly what Sanibel is!

The weather in June is hot but not horrible. We go every year usually in June.

If it is just the two of you, sounds like it is, with no kids, then I would look into more quiet places like the ';Blue dolphin';. It does not have a pool, just the beach, so there are not any kids.

You have picked the perfect spot for a relaxed trip. I would suggest Song Of The Sea for a quiet beach and pool area. They serve a very nice continental breakfast on the patio.

I second mcnaught - Blue Dolphin. Also, if you don%26#39;t want a pool - look at white caps cottages.

If you want a pool - try West Wind Inn, there is a pool bar there and a nice, quiet area on the beach.

Other motel style, suite or 1 bedroom options are at Sanibel Inn, Seaside Inn and Song of the sea.

We experienced Sanibel for the first time last year in early June for our anniversary. It%26#39;s spectacular. The weather was a little warm, but the breezes off the Gulf while walking on the beach looking for shells keep you comfortable. We stayed at Beachview Cottages and had a wonderful experience. They are right on the beach, but also have a pool. There are bikes you can sign out to use, free of charge. You won%26#39;t regret a trip to Sanibel. We anxiously await our next visit. Enjoy!

If you want Blue Dolphin,I suggest book NOW! We got there last spot for May and that was 6 weeks ago, when we booked, and we go there every chance we can.They%26#39;re small, and they fill up fast.Sometimes,a year in advance.

I%26#39;m a beach bummm and it%26#39;s heaven! It is pretty secluded at Blue Dolphin.... You will feel like your in Beach heaven!

June can get pretty hot mid island, however it%26#39;s fine at the beach where you can get wet and have a breeze. Rainy Season starts some time in June, however if you go out early each day you will have your fill of the beach by the time the clouds roll in and it clears up pretty fast....I go back out and stroll the beaches and watch the sunset.

I stay out all day on the beach and use a canvas umbrella to get out of the heat from time to time.

Enjoy!

tpoid3,

1) Do it!

2) Sanibel Island in June, especially in the week that the longest day of the year falls...well, it is HOT. We were there last year the same week as you are planning to go. There%26#39;s a reason why the prices are cheaper then. But, even so, it was sooooo worth it. Make sure to wear sunblock, and even light long sleeve shirts if you really want to be protected. I recommend hats and sunglasses too.

3) The gulf is like bathwater at that time in June. Still though, it is wet, and it keeps you cool. A place with a pool is a good idea too to help with staying cool.

4) Unless there%26#39;s a storm, shelling (which is still GREAT -- see my pictures for evidence!) isn%26#39;t as good as it typically is in the winter (or so I%26#39;m told).

5) Sanibel Island seems like the perfect place for you. There are restaurants that cater more to people without children -- these are usually the more expensive ones. If children bug you, you may want to visit those. I have two young children, so we went to places that catered to children -- The Hungry Heron, Jerry%26#39;s Restaurant (inside the grocery store), and The Island Cow. All are good for those without children too though.

6) Make sure to take bug spray as they do get you, especially when the sun goes down.

Have fun!
