Cape Coral pool without a screen/covering

Hello,

My husband and I are planning to rent a home in Cape Coral the last two weeks of May. The home we found that most appeals to us is one with the outdoor pool area NOT enclosed by a pool screen, as most appear to be. Is there a problem with mosquitoes and other at this time of year........will be advised to only take a house that has a screened in pool area?

Any advice much appreciated - Thank you!

I would say that it was unusual to see an in-ground pool without a screen (called a Lanai), especially in a rented property. In my opinion 95% of pools are covered in this way, unless its a bigger communal pool in condo for example.

I personally wouldnt rent a property without one, there are so many bugs, not just mosquitos, flying around. I know that if we get a rip in the netting in our own property then we end up with them in the pool as well.

PS I am surprised they are trying to rent without a Lanai. Maybe a home that had a problem with the mortgage and now they are forced to rent?

These are my own personal opinions renting in the past 5 years, and happy to bow to the superior knowledge of locals.

You need a screened pool,to many insects!

Actually Mayfast, a lanai is the deck around the pool or a balcony. The screened in area is called a cage. Living here in SW Florida I can personally say I would not rent a home without a cage around the pool. You will have all sorts of insects, Gecko%26#39;s, birds, leaves. etc. Mosquito%26#39;s are a problem as are no seeums. As stated previously once you get a tear in your screen you are prompt in getting it fixed. You rarely see an in ground pool without this type of protection and I would opt to rent where you can enjoy your pool with no worries.

I have to second Gringo%26#39;s response. An uncaged pool/lanai area here in southwest Florida is virtually useless after dark between April and November, sorry.
