The River House restaurant , a large mansion along the Riverfront , is advertising that they will open for a three course fix price dinner on Valentine%26#39;s Day . It has generally only been open on holidays since the restaurant was closed some time ago, so if you want to go, this is one opportunity. I was surprised not to see the menu posted on their website , but it is in the local Sun Sentinel and will be $44.95 pp I believe.
I was never a big fan , but I know some locals really miss going there. Here%26#39;s their website if you want reservations:

River House open for Valentine Dinner
Lulu, thank you for the information. Wish I was there to try these interesting places to dine. Is this the former location of the Chart House.
Also, I have been curious about one of my old favorite restaurants and you may be the one to ask. Casa Vecchia seems to have disappeared a while ago, although I don%26#39;t remember when it closed. Is the building gone as well? I recall it was on Birch road near where The Pillars hotel is now. It was a nice location with great atmosphere on the Intracoastal. I always look for it but things change so quickly along the beach.
(BTW, you are the one to ask about my ';old'; favorite because you are an expert on the best of Ft. Lauderdale, not because I use the word! LOL!)
River House open for Valentine Dinner
I don%26#39;t remember when it closed either , but it has been a long time (maybe mid 90%26#39;s) and the same owner also closed Down Under which I was more familiar with at about the same time I think.
Yes, River House is the former Chart House.
Oh, and I don%26#39;t know what became of Casa Vecchia%26#39;s site, but the former address was 209 Birch RD, Pillars is at 111- maybe I will cruise by some time and peek. So many old haunts gone - we have a very large matchbook collection and it reaaly brings out the nostalgia- anyone remember Cafe Geneve, across from Broward General? John and I had one of our first dates there!
And before Chart House, River House began it%26#39;s restaurant career as the ';Historic Bryant Homes.';
Thanks for the info., Lulu.
Yes, I remember Cafe Geneve from the 90%26#39;s. My uncle and some of his crowd liked it and I was fortunate to discover it through him. It was very good. I didn%26#39;t realize it was gone. That%26#39;s one of the things I miss most about FTL, the amazing variety of dining choices.
They also introduced me to La Perla, Catfish Dewey%26#39;s, Cafe de Paris, Greek Islands, Primavera, The French Quarter, I could go on and on!! There was also a French retaurant we liked that reminded me of Cafe Geneve. It was in a strip mall up in Pompano or Deerfield, maybe near the Cove. It may be gone as well.
I do remember The River House under the name Bryant Homes. My collection isn%26#39;t matchbooks, it%26#39;s old postcards. I love the old family ones, but it%26#39;s fun to add new discoveries as well. Would love to see your matchbooks, I%26#39;m sure they would bring back alot of forgotten landmarks.
French Quarter is gone too- i can%26#39;t bring up the name of the Cafe in the Cove, but it%26#39;s still there- Val de Loire maybe? I%26#39;ll come up with it eventually..
