We checked into the Marriott South Beach on NYE. The location is excellent. Everything was within walking distance (though we did take taxi%26#39;s to and from Lincoln). We had a suite and it was nice. I expected a little more since Marriott rates this as one of their top resorts. My guess is that it is only because of the location. Our fidge did not work and our shower head had issues. Neither one was fixed during our stay. However, it was minor. Having a Starbucks on site: priceless.
The first night we ate at a Tavern Opa on Ocean Drive. The food was good, but pretty expensive. I had the lamb chops and the others had a steak and gyros. We actually have better greek food in downtown Detroit, but this was good.
The next day we shopped all morning. Quicksilver on Collins Ave got a lot of my money. Great store for shopping with the kids. Lincoln Road was nice. The specialty stores were neat. We found a Dog Bar (?) that had pet stuff you normally only find in Europe.
The second night we ate at Big Pink. What a madhouse. It took almost 2 hours to get waffles and sandwiches. Neat place, but I would only return if it was empty.
The last day we went to Bayside and took the Thriller boat tour. It was awesome, as my kids would say. The boat went much faster than anyone expected. It was also neat to see some of the big celebrity houses.
We ate at a cuban place that I forget the name. It was next to Lombardi%26#39;s. The food was above average fare. A nice alternative to all the seafood we had eaten on the gulf side.
Overall, I was a little worried taking 3 kids to South Beach but my fears were miss-placed. South Beach was great. My 12 year old now wants to move there! We will be back.
