i want to take my wife to Miami on our anniversary
in october( I know I am starting early)
we want to go spend 3-5 days and not just do the
tourist stuff. we want to stay in a reasonable priced
place that is in the middle of everything, see local
art, music, food and people.
any suggestions from experienced Miami visitors or
locals would be greatly appreciated

Check rates at the Park Central. Right in the middle of it all!
Lots of ideas for fun things to do here:

Miami
Geography for 1st time tourists:
Miami Beach is a city located on a barrier island of the same name off the coast of Miami, Florida %26amp; connected by several bridges %26amp; causeways.
The southmost 2.5 miles of the City of Miami Beach known as South Beach (or SoBe) is the shopping, club %26amp; hotel district %26amp; where everyone wants to be. To be in the center or within walking distance of the center of SoBe you want to stay in a place with a street number under 2300 and on Ocean Drive or Collins or Washington Avenues.
%26gt;%26gt; . . . not just do the tourist stuff. %26lt;%26lt;
For instance?
I hope I haven%26#39;t duplicated this question
we want to see more of Miami than the beaches and chain stores
we went on a cruse and had a afternoon to kill and ended up on Lincoln street
we enjoyed to blocked off streets and the open area atmosphere
but we would want to eat at local restaurants, look at and maybe buy local art, crafts etc
see Miami as more of a local that knows the good places
we would want to stay in a place that would have the best possible access to to most stuff
thanks
You don%26#39;t say whether you%26#39;ll have a car.
If you have a car you can do quite a bit. You can spend a day in Everglades National Park; head down to the Fla. Keys; Head West on the Tamiami Trail to Everglades City/Chokoloskee or to Naples or drive up the coast to Palm Beach -- all day trips. Without a car, you can use buses %26amp; Metro-Mover to visit Little Havana, Villa Vizcaya, the University of Miami, Coral Gables.
I might rent a car-have been to the keys and love it
but I was thinking of staying close to Miami
