any friendly travel agencies that are in KW?

Okay, so after reading so much here the past several days I went and booked my trip for nights starting Jan. 29.

But I am having a hard time finding a reservations place on the phone. I%26#39;ve called 3 or 4 numbers (found here and the Internet)and nobody answers or it%26#39;s a wrong number!

I%26#39;m looking for someone who is actually in Key West who knows most of the B%26amp;Bs, who can get me the best deal on a place for under $200/ night. I am hoping with the economy so down there might be discounts and they just aren%26#39;t showing them on their websites.

There are lots of choices for me, as I%26#39;ve seen 7 or 8 already, but would like to know how they REALLY are, as Internet photos are usually very old and sometimes unreliable.

I don%26#39;t need recommendations for individual inns just recommendations for a number that works, where a friendly, knowledgeable person can get a good rate on a clean, quiet room with the basic amenities, plus a pool, near Duval and the seaport (instead of near the southernmost area.

Thanks a bunch!

Kathy at The Hip Tourist should be able to help. Kathy can be reached at 305-293-3332.

Bambi at www.keywestinfo.com was pretty good at getting us places before we knew where we wanted to stay. She can be reached at 305-292-5000. I haven%26#39;t used her for about 2 years, but if she is still there she was great at finding us a place with exactly what we wanted at a lower price.

Any 800 numbers for them?

Kind of a long distance call for me ;-)

best bet, do some work. the best deals come from personal contact with the owners of the inns or b%26amp;b%26#39;s. however, if that is too much trouble, then just chance it. on jan 29 key west will be a waste land. you can go into any establishemt and basically name your price.

Why don%26#39;t you try to use the tools given to you free on this page? Scroll to the top, look left and you%26#39;ll see deals, hotels, overview, etc. It%26#39;s all there, waiting for you. A local travel agent isn%26#39;t necessarily going to know about hotel rooms because he/she goes home at night and doesn%26#39;t stay in them.

It better not be a wasteland. Jan - May is the high season. Make calls... Get the numbers of some places that interest you through the reviews here. Drop a dime and get your plan together.

Oh, and thank you for hoping our economy sucks. That%26#39;s nice. It%26#39;s actually packed in town right now...we%26#39;ll do just fine, thank you.

IMO the travel reviews here on TA are the aboslute best tool when picking a place. You can see the date it was written and the pics taken. Most have pretty recent reviews too. You can also contact the person who posted it by private message if you want.

Most places have 800 numbers. Have any places peaked your interest? What numbers are you calling? I have never heard comments like this before (nobody answering, wrong numbers). Anyone down there that works for a reservation agency is most likely getting kickbacks as an incentive. If I were you, do your own homework and pick the place best for you. You will be happier in the end. TA is a great tool and you should be able to plan most of your vacation just using this forum and the Traveler Articles. Key West is a very popular destination and this forum is very active with reviews and pictures. I highly doubt you will find anything ';old and unreliable'; but if you have a question with a review, just ask it on the forum. BTW - 200 a night, with everything you are asking for might be a little impossible in season. Do not wait too long to book something if you find anything.

Here are 2 sites that should help you in your search.

http://keywest.com/ This one has a good list of places with 800 numbers.

http://www.happydayskeywest.com/ This gives an idea of prices.
