My husband and I are considering taking our daughters (11 %26amp; 9) to Destin for Spring Break. We have been to Myrtle Beach and Gulf Shores in the summer, but are a bit concerned about the temps in Destin for mid March. Any insight on a family vacation there in March? Thank you and Happy New Year!
Spring Break in Destin???
If you go to
http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/
select Gulf of Mexico-Eastern, look at Pensecola and you will have average water temps for the entire Emerald Coast.
Spring breaks can vary depending on college breaks, secondary school breaks and where Easter falls in any given year; all this, reference the volume of people to expect, but it shouldn%26#39;t be bad at all.
Beach temps will vary day to day but using data from mid-March 2008,
wunderground.com/cgi-bin/…
it seems the average high temp was about 71 degrees.
Spring Break in Destin???
Mid-March will be cool -- water temps in the low 60%26#39;s and air temps averaging about 70. Probably good for sticking your toes in the gulf, but not for swimming ... maybe you%26#39;re kids will get in. As you%26#39;ll see in lots of other posts about temperatures on this forum, it all depends upon your POV for what%26#39;s warm (or not). If you go make sure to find a place with a heated pool and hot tub.
We will be in Sandestin for March break as well - our kids will be 13 and 9. We have been before and it is really nice there with lots to do. It is a bit cool- great for staying on the sand but water is cool but doable by noonish.
