What to do in Orlando area?? Advice please!

We are a late 40%26#39;s couple going to Orlando for a week on 17th January. Third time for me but first for my husband. He doesn%26#39;t want to %26#39;do%26#39; Disney, although I think he would enjoy Epcot. Any ideas what we could see or do instead. He fancies the Everglades and an air boat ride, also the Kennedy Space Centre. We are staying on International Drive which is a first for me and have got car hire already arranged. A day at the beach would be good, I have been to Cocoa Beach before and also stayed in St.Petes area, but any other suggestions very welcome. We will also be taking a day trip to Port St Lucie to visit his brother are there any good things to see down that way or en-route?

Many thanks!

Lyn

Well if he doesnt want to do Disney that just leaves UNIVERSAL STUDIOS ,ISLANDS OF ADVENTURE, BUSH GARDENS,SEA WORLD,AQUATICA,CYPRESS GARDENS,BOGGY CREEK AIRBOAT RIDE,numerious shopping malls,The Space Center, deep sea fishing etc etc etc ,not much really lol.

What to do in Orlando area?? Advice please!

Thanks! He usually prefers to go to the Isle of Wight! lol

I know a good cheap hotel lol

I just checked Cypress Garens. It closed in November till March 2009 for renovation. Shame it sounded good.

Try this.

http://www.cityofpsl.com/ and also check out silver springs.

Silver Springs looks perfect and he likes the look of it too!

If he has never been to Disney, unless he is a total stick in the mud, make him go. WDW has something for all ages and it would be a shame for him to not experience it at least once. I cannot imagine that he wouldn%26#39;t enjoy most of it. We are older than he is, and we love it each and every time we go (been somewhere around ten times). Always something new to see or something we hadn%26#39;t noticed in a prior visit. GM Test Track is worth the price of admission to Epcot, and there is Soarin%26#39;, and so much more.

Gatorland and Silver Springs are both great, up near Silver Springs is the Don Garlit%26#39;s drag racing museum and old car museum if he is into cars.

The Daytona Beach area has so much to do, the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is great if you like maritime history, Angel and Phelps free chocolate factory tour, Daytona Speedway tour and IMAX, greyhound racing (new facility this year), huge flea market, Hooter%26#39;s or Traders Restaurant hot wings, driving your car on the actual beach (small fee), Aunt Catfish%26#39;s on the river for great down south cooking, boardwalk, minor league baseball park, and much, much more (go to the TA Daytona forum for more ideas).

Good luck.

given this is an actual request for help ;-)

I would suggest that someone who doesn%26#39;t want to do Disney or any theme parks should concentrate their holiday else where in Florida. The beaches, Miami, the Keys, the gulf etc.

KSC would be good, and Epcot has plenty to amuse adults and children. Universal with it%26#39;s movie theme is good for adults. Get your self a higer end hotel resort or a swanky condo/villa. Concentrate your holiday eating at the higher end chains plus some of the excellent resort and local higher end dining places.

But if nature is his thing, I would visit wekiwa springs, myakka river state park, the gulf barrier islands from caladesi to Sanibel/captiva and visit the everglades further south. Deep sea fishing on the gulf or Keys.

Does he golf- there are courses everywhere in FL?

Does your husband like music ?.

If so, you could take him to Hard Rock Cafe - lots to see if your a music fan.

You could also see if there%26#39;s any good bands / performers on while you%26#39;re there. Good value venues, close to the action include :

Hard Rock Live (Universal%26#39;s Citywalk)

and

House of Blues (Downtown Disney)

We saw ';The Blues Brothers'; (Jim Belushi and Dan Akroyd) at the House of Blues in October %26#39;08 - class !.

Would he want to ';do'; Seaworld? We always do SeWorld/Busch Gardens instead of Disney. The crowds aren%26#39;t as bad and they are super fun and SeaWorld is educational too.
