Miami beach restaurants

We are going to be staying at the Loews in South Beach. We won%26#39;t have a car the first night, so we%26#39;re looking for a restaurant within walking distance. The other nights we will have a car, which means we can explore other neighborhoods.

Our two daughters are in their 20s. Like everyone else, we want good food that doesn%26#39;t cost a fortune. We don%26#39;t eat a lot of meat....ideally, we would like places with Latin American or Cuban food or fish.

The Tap Tap Restaurant at 819 5th Street serves great Haitian food, Including fish and other seafood at reasonable prices. A very nice ambiance with live music and original Haitian art work. Not quite walking distance (less than 1.5 miles from the Loews)

Nemo is good for fish -- fun place and good atmosphere... you won%26#39;t be able to walk but its a very short cab ride.

Or, if you don%26#39;t want to take a cab to either place, check in the electrowave, a local shuttle service. The rides costs 25 cents a person and runs 365 days 8am to 1 sm.

sorry about the typo the %26#39;wave runs 8am to 1 am. Mimi

The Loews is within walking distance of what must be well over 100 restaurants of all prices -- and of varying quality %26amp; ambience. Just walk South on Ocean Drive or Washington Ave. or West on Espanola Way or Lincoln Road; read the menus that are invariably posted %26amp; choose what looks good.

We didn%26#39;t realize that the BCS championship game would be going on while we are there, so I%26#39;m thinking that I should make reservations in advance.

You will need a reservation only if you want to eat at a sports bar...

We are staying at the Loews too. We are eating at Emeril%26#39;s tonight - not into being out on New Year%26#39;s at our age (50%26#39;s). We haven%26#39;t eaten anywhere else but Doraku (sushi) got great reviews on tripadvisor. If you eat somewhere good will you post it? Likewise, if you eat somewhere ';not so good'; will you post it and save us the time?

Thanks!

love%26gt;

Happy New Year!

How was Emeril%26#39;s last night?

The link above your post leads to an online list of fun and not too expensive restaurants near your hotel. I live here and keep an active eye on the dining scene so you don%26#39;t get stuck anyplace touristy and waste your money...

Near the Loews I like Beach BBQ on Washington, Matarello on 14th, La Sandwicherie and T.Mex next door, Front Porch on Ocean, Zeke%26#39;s on Lincoln and Bella Cuba on Washington (if you want to try local Cuban cuisine)...

Have a Great Trip -

We were a little disappointed with Emerils. Firstly, they didn%26#39;t tell us ahead of time that there was only the Prix Fix menu (no substitutions) for $95 a person. Wine pairings an additional $55 each. Secondly,pretty good food though we don%26#39;t like lamb. We saw after the fact that people WERE getting substitutes like redfish or salmon. We fault the waiter for this. The wines were not impressive either. The best food was fried oyster in phyllo dough, the marscapone truffle ravioli and the dulce de leche creme brulee. Would recommend all these if they are on their main menu. We never saw the menu.
