The Hilton on the beach sounds great and the reviews were postive BUT the parking is so expensive $30 per day. Is that the norm in the area? Is it worth it to stay at this hotel? I got a good rate at $260 per night for a suite. Would does anyone think? Any better hotels for that price? I want to book soon. Thanks.....

Unfortunately big hotels on the beach do levy hefty parking charges, sadly you%26#39;ll have to live with it. The only places that don%26#39;t charge are the Mom and Pos which are on the streets adjacent or parellel to the beach. Pillars is a more upscale place but not a full service hotel, they don%26#39;t charge for parking but then again they are not on the beach but overlooking the intracoastal.

What hotels are available at what price will depend entirely on the date you plan to come- rates fluctuate greatly. Sue is correct that every major hotel on the beach charges $25-30 or so for parking- pretty much because they all have a captive audience as there are no other overnight parking options.
Whether you need a car at all or can use taxis ,trolleys etc would depend on what you hope to do while here. Some are able to get along without a car , others find them a necessity. Maybe you could tell us when you are coming ( you might have in another post but I get forgetful) and what you hope to do during your stay.
The Hilton is a really nice all-suite hotel. Be careful of the type of suite you%26#39;re getting though. They have suites from studios to two or three bedrooms. The studios are rather small.
Sue and Lulu are giving you good information about parking and the charges related to doing so at most of the hotels.
Other hotels on the beach that you might want to look at are Marriott Harbor Beach, Lago Mar, and The Atlantic. I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ll get anything lower than the $260 - but again, double check with the Hilton to see exactly what you%26#39;re getting for the money.
Thanks everyone. We are coming down in mid April...the height of tourism. I love Harbor Beach but the price there is crazy. The Hilton really sounds great, I just have to suck up the parking fee!! I am also contemplating Key West for something different. It%26#39;s a long drive but maybe go there for a few days. Does anyone know of nice places there? I didn%26#39;t post anything on that forum yet. We are landing in Miami so I can do Lauderdale or the keys. Any opinions?
All of the hotels in the Southernmost group are good. There is a Best Western Hibiscus which is good IMO. There%26#39;s a Holiday Inn in the centre of the action on Duval. there are a couple of really nice ones at the cruise port end of Duval but their names escape me at the moment. As with everything it depends on what you want to pay and what standard of accommodation you want. Nothing on Key West comes cheap.
