Avoid Avis at Miami International Airport

Over the years, I have rented cars from several of the rental agencies at MIA. My most recent experience at Avis was typical of the awful service I have faced or witnessed there in the past.

My flight from New York took about 3 hours. It took literally over 1 1/2 hours of standing in line in the Avis office to get a car I had reserved! Why doesn%26#39;t Avis hire more staff?

(Yes, I know you can avoid the lines by joining their preferred membership -- I am an Avis preferred member and use that service at other Avis branches, but in this case I had booked a lower-priced rental through priceline.com, so I couldn%26#39;t use the preferred membership.)

While waiting in that line, I saw the staff getting into yelling arguments with other customers. (I%26#39;ve seen this in that office in the past.)

And on my most recent visit to Avis MIA about 6 weeks ago, when I had rented a car as an Avis preferred member, the agent who was checking cars in told me she could not check my car in and that I would have to go into the office for the return. She provided no explanation as to what the problem was. I went to the preferred members%26#39; office, and was told there that I needed to go into the general office because they didn%26#39;t see what the problem was. So I went into the general office, waited about 25 minutes in line (almost missed my flight), only to be told by the agent when I reached the counter that there was nothing wrong with my account and she didn%26#39;t know why the agent outside had told me to come inside. No apology.

If you have a choice, go to Hertz, or Alamo, or one of the other rental agencies at MIA (or even better, go through Ft Lauderdale and save a few dollars).
