Virgin child seat

We have booked a seat and a child seat for our 18 month year old when we fly to Orlando with Virgin next year. Just have a few questions to ask anyone who has used this service before:

Do we have to sit in a certain area on the plane?

Can the seat be fitted on any seat or does it have to be an aisle or window seat for example?

Will we still be able to check in online and prebook seats? (The operater when we booked flights saixd we couldn%26#39;t although the website has allowed mw to prebook seats).

Thanks

Hi Andy R Leeds

Just got this of the Virgin website.

NEW INFANT/CHILD SEAT

Our new Infant/Child Seat is available on all Virgin Atlantic aircraft and is suitable for newborn babies, infants and children up to a maximum weight of 44lbs (20kg) or a maximum height of 40in (100cm). The Infant/Child Seat is available for use in all cabins.

An infant/child occupying an Infant/Child Seat, must be accompanied by a guardian of at least 16 years. The minimum age that someone can sit beside an infant, who is using an Infant/Child seat, is 14 years and over. However, there must be a third passenger travelling with the party who is aged 16 and over. Also one adult cannot travel with 2 children occupying 2 Infant/Child seats - In this case, another accompanying adult (14 plus) would need to also travel.

In the Economy and Premium Economy cabins, the guardian must be seated next to the infant/child. If travelling in Upper Class, the guardian must be seated immediately behind the infant/child.

Please note, passengers who require use of an Infant/Child Seat will have to purchase a seat at the applicable child fare.

Hope this helps.

We have used one these child seats a few years ago on a Virgin flight and it can be put on any seat. It just looks like a car seat. We found it easier to use it on the window seat so we didn%26#39;t have to clamber over it when we had to go to the loo.

However despite booking one of these seats, then confirming the booking on the phone, then re-confirming at check-in...we still had to ask the stewards on the plane for the child seat. They had not received any request from customer service despite us being told yes the request had been made. So just keep on asking for the seat at each check in point.

I did ring and ask but they were less than useless. Thanks SalfordLad, had read that but felt it was a bit vague as to where you could actually put the seat.

Thanks diamondgal. Out of interest how it was your child. Would you have had to buy a seat for them anyway and if not did you think it was a worthwhile investment? Did you check in before or just at the airport?

Our DD was 21 months old at the time so she could have sat on our laps but we decided to pay for a seat for her so we were all comfortable. The babyseat we think had a five point harness on it but this was a while ago (She is 10 now). She was very comfortable and the baby seat boosted her up so she could reach the seat back table and see the TV - not that she really watched anything.

We still think that it was a good idea what we did although it did add to the holiday cost.

We have just taken our youngest DD (18 months old) to Dubai on our laps and its was a bit of a nightmare on the way home. She just wanted her own space and not to be held down by her parents. Even though we were in Premium with a bit of extra room.

Sorry forgot about the check-in question. This holiday was a long time ago so we checked in at the airport. No internet check-in available. We just gave ourselves extra time at the airport so we weren%26#39;t rushed. But as I said before just keep asking if the seat has been ordered. There are always plenty of Virgin staff around at the check-in point so don%26#39;t worry you will be fine.

Have a fab holiday.

We flew with Virgin last month and requested a child seat for our 20 month old daughter for the outbound flight. We didn%26#39;t bother with one for the inbound flight for the following reasons: on take-off our daughter fell asleep but, although the seat reclines the child seat doesn%26#39;t. She therefore only slept for about 20 minutes as her head was hanging forward so very uncomfortable. The flight was more than half empty so we moved towards the front of the aircraft for the duration of the flight. However, on landing the stewardess came to find us and we had to use the child seat for landing and therefore had to move back to our original seats.

On our inbound flight, as it was also very empty and a night flight, our daughter was able to lay down on three spare seats and sleep much more comfortably.

Hope this helps but have no advice about your online checking question.
